China makes public plea for quake-related rescue equipment - The Ministry of Industry and Information made an urgent public call on Thursday for rescue equipment to aid the work in quake regions.
It listed 31 types of equipment, ranging from hammers, shovels and demolition tools to cranes, rubber boats and life detectors. The amount needed varied between several hundred and 50,000. (more from People's Daily On-Line)

Sichuan migrant workers anxious about quake-hit homes - Unlike many in Beijing, Ye Shao did not feel a thing when China's most ruinous earthquake in decades struck in her home province of Sichuan on Monday, sending shockwaves that panicked residents from Shanghai to Bangkok.
